Is there any way to have dynamic presets applied to FX? (ala Magic Q Soft Palettes).
In other systems I’ve achieved this using macros to copy presets to a master set which FX draw from but I haven’t found a way to do that in Onyx.
When switching to Onyx, I thought I’d just use Dylos for most of my color, dim and chase FX but whilst I find it great for complex things but some bread and butter 2 col chase type stuff seems very hard to achieve.

DyLOS is definitely the best tool to use to achieve this, as it features “Preset Mapping”.
Firstly, choose a piece of black and white content, or use a generator, so that it runs at the speed you like, and direction you like. It could even be triggered via an incoming Beat. For example, you could have a simple centre-out effect.
Then, go to the Mapping tab, and choose 2 Preset mapping. This will allow you to choose a Preset that outputs when the Black content passes over the zone, and another Preset that outputs when the White content passes over the zone.
These presets can contain any parameters, but you’ll probably want them to include intensity too, unless the fixture’s intensity is being controlled by another playback.
For example, I could choose an Orange preset for Black, and Blue preset for White. Now, when my Black and White content runs, I will have an orange and blue preset effect.
You can store this DyLOS configuration as a preset too, so you don’t have to create it each time for this zone.

A really quick way to do this, would be create a new 2D Plan page, with all the odd fixtures stacked on top of one another, and all the even fixtures stacked on top of one another. Then add a DyLOS zone over the top of your two stacks, and run content over the odds and evens.

Is there a way to copy a preset to another preset via a command? I see there is a CLI command, but you would also need to click the preset you want to copy from and to.
No - as the Parameter Groups do not have physical command keys, it is not possible to bring the Parameter Groups onto the command line for copying presets.
