Hello. I use TC Supply’s SHOWKONTROL to send timecode, but does ONYX support TC-NET? What software do you use to send timecode? I’d like to know. I want to spread the word about ONYX in Japan!
My cient wants all lights, laser software, Resolume, etc. to follow the music from the Pioneer CDJs. over a network.
We’re looking at Ableton products etc, (Live, ProDJ Link bridge, Beat Link Trigger, Protokol) It’s my understanding that it’s best to have the 3 party programs run the ‘showfile’ ,and then send OSC to Onyx console? However, I’m confused because there seems to be so many choices of how do best accomplish this, yet so few options that actually work, or are ‘directly compatible’ with Onyx. (and I’m having trouble finding a simple diagram or outline to do this)
The first decision that needs to be made, is the type of trigger you’d like ONYX to receive - would you like to send commands at specific times you’d like changes to happen (such as OSC, MIDI Show Control, MIDI Notes, or Telnet), or would you like ONYX to listen to a timecode, and trigger cues at different time stamps?
Timecode would tend to be used for rehearsed light shows, whereas triggers can be used for more on-the-fly control.
90% of the time it would probably be listening and following the beat of a live DJ. I would like to do some additional busking on the console but a lot of times there will be no one there to operate the lights. I suggested using the audio input on the console for this but the client really wants everything to run through a master control that then sends out whatever signals are required to do this to the different elements of hardware like video, lasers, and DMX lights..
You may find you need to send two different protocols to ONYX: for example, you will need to send your trigger/timecode protocol in order to change which lighting state is active on ONYX, whilst simultaneously sending Ableton Link, to synchronise the current lighting effect with the current tempo. Ableton Link is not intended to trigger lighting states, but instead intended to set the tempo of DyLOS & chases.
