Hey everyone.
So I have recently purchased an NX-1.
I had planned on using it with my PC but when I connect it via ethernet, I have no option to have the console join my pc show.
Nothing is showing up on either side.
They did see each other at one point, but registered as unknown, and then after a few mins, they stopped seeing each other at all.
I’m not sure how to even trouble shoot this, so any advice would be greatly apprecated.
Firstly, please make sure that your NX1 and Onyx PC are running identical versions of Onyx software. The latest version is Onyx 4.10.1271, which can be downloaded from the link below… Download
Then, on both NX1 and Onyx PC, go to the Onyx Menu > Network Settings > Interfaces, and ensure the Ethernet port you are using is selected. Then, ensure that the IP addresses of both systems are unique but within range, with both systems having the same subnet mask. Then, make sure that X-Net is enabled in the Network Protocols list on both systems.
Then go to the Shows tab at the bottom, and you should see the other Onyx system on the network. Either system should then be able to join the other system’s show.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Edward
While the output of an EtherDMX Protocol (sACN / Art-Net) and console communication (Remote / X-Net) is better on two separate NIC interfaces, they can be sent over the same one. You would need a switch to help with the setup of the “Ecosystem” since you won’t be able to run directly between console / PC / Node(s). Which you may already have in your setup.
To get a second NIC interface on the NX1, you can use a USB to Ethernet dongle. Just make sure the dongle uses generic windows drivers.
So after much tinkering, I found that my issue was actually a hardware problem on my PC.
My ethernet port was actually failing, so i switched to a dongle and all it good!
I apricate all the advice offered, and hopefully it will help others.
I guess my real question is though, why remove the ability to control Onyx on PC via USB on the NX-1?
I have used a NX-wing for a while, and I know the NX2 has a usb mode.
Just seems odd to take that feature off one of your premier control options.
Are their any plans to make this happen via an update?
Glad to hear you were able to get your X-Net system working.
On the NX1 all front panel controls are directly driven by the internal CPU, and there is no “USB in”, so it is not possible to use the NX1 hardware as a wing. The NX-P is available as the wing alternative to NX1.
I gotcha, well if that is the case. Would it be possible to enable the PC “Console” to unlock the same level of permissions the NX-1 has when it joins the show at least?
I would like to be able to use OSC on my PC, but I am locked out.
I would not like to need an essentials dongle on top of the NX-1 I just purchased.
X-Net does not contain licence information, so Onyx PC will not be able to utilise the licence of the Onyx hardware it is connected to over X-Net.
I fully appreciate it is an additional cost, but a potential future addition to your system could be an NX-K. When connected to your NX1 via USB, this would give you a physical syntax & command pad for programming. Whereas when connected to Onyx PC, it will unlock 4-universes of EtherDMX output, plus OSC. You would therefore have the flexibility of plugging the NX-K into NX1 or Onyx PC, depending on the show and your needs.
