EN12 - DMX signal loss hold timeout at least 10s

Hi,

I have encountered that the DMX signal loss timeout is at least 10s. I cannot set it to 0 sec.

Using Version 3.0.1.

That setting does not immediatly turn off the lights at signal loss:

Hi @theblond

If EN12 stops receiving an sACN/Art-Net universe, EN12 will wait around 4 seconds, before determining the universe has been lost. At this point, the Hold Timeout will then begin to count down. The EN12 will then activate the chosen Loss Mode, observing the Loss Fade Time.

Therefore, with the settings in your screenshot, you should find the DMX stops around 4 seconds after the sACN/Art-Net source goes offline.

Which sACN/Art-Net source are you using?

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Edward

Hi Edward,

its more like 10 seconds than 4 seconds. I am currently not using any Art-Net or SACN input.

Thats my input configuration. I go physically with a 5-pin DMX cable into the EN12. The Art-Net is configured for another purpose, so I can switch between scenarios without changing the input config.

And the corresponding output:

Hello,

Thank you very much for the photos. In this scenario, you are doubling the Signal Loss time.

This is because after losing DMX input, port 1 will take 4 seconds to determine the source has been lost. It will then stop sending Art-Net to port 3. Port 3 will then take another 4 seconds to determine that Art-Net from port 1 has stopped. Your DMX receiver that is connected to port 3, may then take a couple of seconds to realise DMX has been lost. Hence, it takes 10 seconds from stopping DMX input, until your receiver determines DMX has been lost.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Edward

Ohh, understood. Yeah, it can be 8 seconds indeed. I have counted it out of my head.

So maybe I should programm two different configs. One for my physical DMX where I just clone the ports and one for my Artnet setup.

Thank you Edward for the quick help!

No problem at all.

It is worth mentioning that you will see the same behaviour when port 3 is configured to “Clone” port 1. This is because internally, port 3 would still be receiving Art-Net generated from port 1.

OK never mind, posted at the same time. ^^

I cloned the ports now. Disable DMX still takes 10 seconds. I stopped the time.

(This is where the RDM10, with its dedicated input ports, is better suited when simply behaving as a DMX splitter)

Yes, I’ve heard of it, that the RDM 10 would have been the better option for my needs.

As I am progressing towards an all Artnet solution, the EN 12 might be still a good choice.
