How to use two PC’s with one EP4.

Looking for some guidance/advice.
Have two PC’s running Onyx, one is the main, second is a back up, connected to a EP4, using sACN. Is it possible to have both connected to the EP4 at the same time? Recently connected backup pc to node and found unable to change attributes on a fixture due to the backup conflicting with the main. Is it just simplest to toggle the ether dmx on when using the backup?

sacn priority!

Hi @styles

As @deflost mentions, the best way to do this is using sACN Priorities.

On your main ONYX PC, enable sACN output, and set the sACN priority to 150 for example. Then on your backup ONYX PC, enable sACN output, and set a lower priority, for example 100.

Your EP4 will receive the sACN from both sources, but will only listen to the source with the highest priority. If the main ONYX PC goes offline, the EP4 will automatically listen to the source with the next highest priority.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi Edward,
Thank you for this answer.
Have done the prioritisation, main at 200 and back-up at 60.
But unfortunately still experiencing some random issues.
We have some Nanlux 140b’s that are running wireless dmx that at times stay on?
I did forget to mention I’m also running a eDMX2 (DMX king) also on the sACN which is running some fixtures in another part of the building on the same universe.
Would changing the priority on the eDMX also help?

sACN priorities only need to be configured on sACN sources. sACN receivers automatically listen to the source with the highest priority for that universe. Is your eDMX2 functioning as an Ethernet to DMX adapter, or DMX to Ethernet adapter to inject DMX onto the network from an external DMX controller? If it is functioning as another Ethernet to DMX adapter like your EP4, it should also listen to the ONYX system with the highest sACN priority.

If you connect the Nanlux fixtures directly to the EP4 via DMX, rather than via wireless DMX, do you still encounter the same data issue?
