LAYER select deselect buttons

Hi to all!
Manual says that we can “select / deselect” using the buttons in the layer view ,but it seems I am not able to do so until I unlock the Layer, but this isn’t really helpful .
I am currently using latest version the pre stable!

The lock is there to prevent unwanted action. Let your layer unlocked

Yeah i got it always asking just to get more in the philosophy of the desk!
