Netron V3 Firmware

We have finished Netron Version 3 for all EN and EP products as well as BS10 and DA2410V. RDM10 will follow, at which point we will fully publish the version.

The V3 files are included in the newest CLU installer, all updates are easy to push to multiple nodes at once from the UI.

Please note that to update BS10 you have to use an EN12i and access the web interface. BS10 can be updated when connected with a simple button click.

V3 is a pretty massive feature update and enhances network protocols and RDM communication across the Netron line.

Download and run the latest CLU installer:

I’ve been using CLU 1.1.2 to update the firmware on 26 nodes, a mix of EN4, EN6D, and EN12. Eight of them are showing the Web version as v2.9.2 v2.9.4 or v2.9.6 after the update. Hopefully this is nothing to worry about?

Hi @PhilipL

Welcome to the forum.

The “Web” version should match the “Firmware” version. Once the firmware update has completed, please refresh CLU. If the firmware version has updated correctly, but the web is still showing the old version, please initiate the firmware update again, by clicking the upload arrow under “Update Firmware” for the devices that have not updated.

Once complete, please refresh CLU again, and you should find both the Firmware and Web version has updated.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Edward

When I try another firmware update using CLU the update never finishes with the symbol still spinning. I then tried updating using the device webpage and that works giving matching firmware versions. I can tell that the firmware has been updated because the status led mimics on Status page is present,

Philip

Thank you for the update.

I am not sure why CLU was failing to update the device firmware. In CLU, was the red/green status icon for the device intermittently toggling between red/green?

Glad to hear you were able to update the devices from their System > Maintenance webpage. To confirm the firmware is up to date, please go to the System > Status webpage.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Edward

Hello, I have also experienced the issue of the update never “finishing” while the symbol continues to spin indefinitely in the newest version of NetronCLU. The “fix” here for me was to completely refresh NetronCLU, and then it would display the newest firmware. I also had to do the web version separately by accessing the files folder. It did not automatically take as it usually does. In the end the updates worked, but not the way they typically would.

perfect … i saved my settings to an file, did the update, which worked and after I reuploaded the settings my presets won’t work. If I load a preset it tells “load failed” …. I hope the software-work will get better because we planned to use more obsidian tools … but if that much problems occure in so small amount of time I don’t think your products will last long in sensitive usage cases like live entertainment … :frowning:

Hi @mikeemike

Backup files saved in Netron firmware 2.x, cannot be loaded into Netron firmware 3.0 or later. This is due to the significant differences between firmware 2.x and 3.x. Full details are included in the Netron release notes…

Netron Release Notes - CLU 1.1.2.pdf

If you had a backup file saved in Netron firmware 3.x, and this failed to import into Netron firmware 3.x, please could you share a copy of the backup file? We will then be able to investigate further.

Edward

Hi @maddy

Thank you for the information. If the Netron device’s firmware version has updated, but the web version has not changed, you can simply perform the firmware update again by clicking the firmware upload arrow for the device. You shouldn’t need to use the Recovery method.

Hi,

updated my EN12 from 2.9.4 to 3.0.1. I needed to update the firmware twice to have the Web version updated to 3.0.1 too. FYI

A small bug: After update I cannot change IP address via the CLU device list. If I type in 192.168.0.10 the node sets itself to 192.0.0.1. I can change to the correct IP address through the IP Settings though.

Hi @theblond

Welcome back to the forum.

Thank you for reporting this.

We are aware of an issue in Netron firmware 3.0.1, where IP addresses configured via LLRP are not setting correctly. As you have found, this results in only the first octet of the IP address being defined correctly, when configured from the CLU device list. This issue is logged on our system as NETRON-154.

Netron devices can be configured to DHCP via LLRP without issue.

Really sorry for the inconvenience caused by this. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi,

I have an EN4 that just won’t update. I’ve tried both CLU and web interface. I’ve done factory reset. I’ve even tried to install an older version but get the same response every time.

CLU:
“Update Firmware”-arrow returns indefinitely spinning icon as result.
”Recovery”-arrow: The img-file returns a red “try again”-icon and the nfw-file returns indefinitely spinning icon.

Web interface:
Update firmware function returns indefinitely spinning icon.
ip-address /update.html returns “can’t reach this page” (/upload.cgi) after upload any of the two files.

Any ideas what to try next?

Hi @Pingst

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear you have had difficulty updating your Netron EN4.

After factory resetting the Netron EN4, you should see a random 2.x.y.z IP address shown on the OLED screen.

Please ensure your PC’s Ethernet connection also has a 2.x.y.z IP address, such as 2.3.4.5, with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0.

Please then launch CLU on your PC, and CLU should discover your EN4 on its IP address. In the device list, the status indicator should be green, and the globe icon should be grey.

Please then go to the Firmware Update tab on the left of CLU, and then click the upload arrow below Update Firmware for the EN4. The progress of the update should be shown on the EN4’s OLED screen. Please allow 5 minutes for the update to complete.

Once complete, and the EN4 has rebooted, please use the EN4’s OLED to navigate to Menu > Information > Software Version. If this is not showing v3.0.1 for both the firmware and web version, please let me know what versions you are seeing instead.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi Edvard
Thanks for the response. I did all the steps again after factory reset but this time with an 2.x.y.z address (I used dhcp earlier). The status indicator is green and the globe is grey. If I push the “Identify” button the EN4 ligths up. Every thing seems OK. It’s on v2.9.4.

Every try returns the same result except when I tried the recovery button and tried to install the .img. Then the display started blinking and the leds next to the dmx ports blinked red and white. It all went back to normal after a reboot. That’s the only time the display has ever shown any sort of feedback when trying to update and it only happened once. I’ve always given the unit time to execute to be shure not to interrupt any process.

I don’t know what to do next.

Hi @Pingst

Thank you for the information.

If the port LEDs are flashing red and white, and the display is flashing, this would suggest the EN4 has received an identify command. This behaviour should not occur during a firmware update.

I’d like to remotely connect to your PC, and see what’s going on. Where abouts are you based? Feel free to email your location to support@obsidiancontrol.com, or send me a direct message.
