Node License Question

Hi All ,

Question about the Obsidian Control NX DMX 2-Port USB Node , does this include a license for 4 Universes ? I will be using it with PC Version .

Hi Tom,

Yes - when the NX DMX is connected to a PC running ONYX, this will unlock the NOVA licence. This means universes 1 thru 4 can be output via sACN/Art-Net, and any of these 4 universes can be output from the two ports on the NX DMX.

Hi Tom,

That’s correct - ONYX will automatically detect the NX DMX when connected via USB, and unlock NOVA mode.

The NX DMX’s ports can then be configured in Menu > DMX Settings > Local DMX.

Hi Edward ,
Purchased the 4 universe NX DMX , plugged into computer USB , no driver install pop up and no device detected in ONYX DMX settings . Can I download the driver ?

Hi Tom,

Great to hear you have an NX DMX.

The Obsidian Control Systems Driver Package will be automatically installed with ONYX. Please go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, and make sure that Obsidian Control Systems Driver Package is installed, with a version number that matches ONYX.

ONYX should then show NOVA to the left of the command line.

Thanks for the reply Edward , just checked the PC at the venue .

Under the Windows Apps it shows the driver package with their ONYX version but it has a red X next to it . In ONYX there is no USB2DMX device or NOVA .
Any idea / solution ?

Something on the PC is blocking ONYX from detecting the NX DMX.

Please could you take a photo of the screen where you’re seeing the red X ?

With the NX DMX connected, please go to ONYX > Menu > Tools > Diagnostic > Firmware Update. Please let me know whether any USB devices are listed.

Hello Edward ,
Back in venue today . Rebooted PC , no red x .

No devices under ONYX Diagnostic . The venue uses Showcockpit for midi control with ONYX 4.2.1057 , is this a case of NOVA license not working with older software version ?

Ah - that’ll be the problem. That is a very early version of ONYX, and the NX DMX will not be compatible with this version. You would need the legacy “Martin M-DMX”. To use the NX DMX, you will need to update to a newer version of ONYX.

Hello Edward ,
Uninstalled 4.2.1057 , installed 4.32 and have the NOVA with 4 licenses and the NX DMX interface with 2 ports outputs data but my other DMX interface from the One Key version isn’t detected , how do I get output for the other two universes using the grey One Key interface ?
The venue originally had two One Keys (with two DMX interfaces) but lost one of the One Key license USB , that is why the NX DMX was purchased .
Is there a way to replace the missing One Key USB license or how do I get output from the other two universes without purchasing another 4 universe interface ?

Hi Tom,

If you have an NX DMX, and a Martin One Key licence, you will need to run ONYX 4.10.1271, which can be downloaded from the link below…

ONYX 4.32 will need to be manually uninstalled first, prior to running the ONYX 4.10 installer.

Once running ONYX 4.10, ONYX will detect both the NX DMX and your Martin interface.
