The new “release” function for parameters does not take delay timing when recorded in a cue. I have tried it with individual channels, and by changing the delay time for the whole cue in the cuelist window. Anything set to “release” does so according to the fade time but ignores delay. Since delay times apply to the “default” function, I assume this is a bug? I’m running 4.32.1307 on an NX2
I am trying to create a “one-shot” effect for a row of strip lights: They are (for instance) red in cue list 1. The goal is for cue list 2 to turn them white in a fanned delay from left to right, and then release them back to red (or whatever color is active in List 1) in an identical fanned delay so that the white sweeps across one time. No matter what I try, the second cue releases all the lights at the same time even though the fanned delay is showing correctly in the programmer and cuelist windows. If this isn’t currently possible, I’d appreciate any workaround suggestions!
@DavidL - Welcome to the Obsidian forum. I hope you are enjoying the platform.
This might not be the best solution, but it seems like the effect is working until you “release” cuelist 2. At that point all lights release. If I’m understanding this correctly, try changing the Cuelist 1 Options to “stay alive”.
By default, when multiple cuelist trigger the same lights, the “latest” cue ran will “release” the previous cuelist. Give that a quick try. Maybe that will do what you want. And if I’m not understanding correctly, maybe someone else will have a better idea.
@Watson Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your suggestion, but the issue is not with the interaction between cuelists. When I release the lights in list 2, they go back to the color set by list 1, as intended. The issue is that the “release” command ignores delay times - I want the lights to release one at a time, not together.
Some more detail: a cue is running in list 1, in which the lights are in a color (i.e. red).
In list 2, I set the lights to white, set delay at 0>1, and record with a time of 0.5. When I run the cue the lights go from red to white in a smooth left to right sweep - so far so good. I select the same lights, choose the color parameter group in the CV, select “release,” which then shows at the bottom of each color parameter, set delay on these lights at 0>1, and record a second cue with time of 0.5. When I run this cue, the lights return to the color in list 1, but all together in a time of 0.5, ignoring the staggered delay. Checking the cuelist window, I see that the delay times have been recorded properly.
Out of curiosity, I removed the staggered delay from the individual lights and set the master delay time for the whole cue to 3 seconds. Again, the lights return to the color in the other cue list, but the fade starts immediately with no delay.
I hope that is more clear than my first post. I’ve been trying to find a way to create one-shot effects like this for a while. I was hoping the release function would be a way to achieve this by setting the color (or intensity, position, etc) in the first cue and having the release cue auto-follow with identical timing. Almost there.
Thank you for your description of the issue. I have logged this behaviour on our system (ONYX-1269), to allow our software team to investigate further.
