SMPTE Timecode is detected by NX Wing LED but not showing up in ONYX

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with LTC/SMPTE timecode input on my NX Wing controller. Here’s my setup:

  • Timecode is generated on a MacBook Pro using LTC audio files from www.pehr.co/ltc.
  • The LTC audio signal is sent via XLR through a Behringer UMC202HD audio interface.
  • The NX Wing is connected to a Windows PC running the latest version of ONYX.
  • The XLR cable is connected to the SMPTE input port on the NX Wing (not the DMX port).
  • The LED next to the SMPTE port changes color depending on the timecode frame rate:
    • Red at 24 fps
    • Green at 25 fps
    • Blue at 30 fps
    • No light when playback stops

This makes me believe the NX Wing is receiving and identifying the timecode signal correctly.

However, in ONYX, the timecode input remains stuck at 00:00:00:00. I have tried:

  • Adjusting the input level in ONYX from -20 dB to +20 dB
  • Changing the gain knob on the audio interface from low to high
  • Restarting ONYX and the controller
  • Verifying that the Elite license is activated (it is)

But still, ONYX doesn’t recognize the signal internally, even though the LED confirms reception.

Question:
Is there any way to test or monitor the SMPTE input directly in ONYX or confirm if it’s being routed properly? Also, is it true that the SMPTE output on the NX Wing is just a passive “thru” port?

Any help or tips are appreciated. I can also provide a video or screenshots via Google Drive if needed. VID_20250410_150211.mp4 - Google Drive

Thanks in advance!

did you change the tc input to midi?

Yes, I did!
That was exactly the issue – I had selected “LTC” instead of “MIDI” in the Timecode settings.
Once I switched it to “MIDI”, everything started working right away.
I honestly wouldn’t have guessed that the SMPTE input on the NX Wing is linked to the “MIDI” option in Onyx.
I was expecting that I needed to select “LTC” instead of “MIDI”, since I’m using an audio LTC signal. So it’s a bit unexpected behavior, but I’m very glad to know how it works now.

Thanks a lot for the help – really appreciate it!

the ltc input on the wing is a kind of nx sync.
it translate the ltc input to midi tc.
