Static Electricity on DMX Port

Hi,

I have a installation that has been in use for just over 2 years. Today they encountered an issue where the 9 Fresnel lights on the stage were flashing and had no control with the lighting controller. These are the only lights and have worked fine for 2 years. When we were doing the initial installation, We remember there was some static shocks when touching the steel structure of the building. Not sure if that is causing an issue?

I did a firmware update and tried the same port and had the same problems so I switched to the next port and it worked! Great, So I left and the tech called me when I was half way home saying that the issues came back. I’m not sure how to test this further without bringing other lights or another node.

Which node are you using? Sounds like a grounding issue on the DMX line.

What is the status of the LEDs on the node?

Solid Blue. They were flashing blue when I did the firmware update but now they are just solid blue

Make sure RDM is turned off, and reduce the speed of the ports to 25hz.
But tbh as it worked before you could have a bad cable or a fixture DMX chip that went bad, causing signal corruption. You have to troubleshoot this one fixture at a time.
