BPM/Tap Sync on FX

Thank you for your additional request for this. I have logged your request to ONYXRM-59.

Have you any ETA for this ?

We currently do not have an estimated date this functionality will be completed.

Incase the Onyx team has no interest of updating the fx engine anymore and the plan is to fully replace it with dylos, it would be cool to have more dylos zones than just 2 or 5.

They dont have to suport video mapping!

Generators would suffice, tho many more generators would have to be added and a tool for users to create there own.

Something like a phaser in ma3.

Thank you for the suggestion. This potential enhancement is logged on our system as reference number ONYXRM-48. I have logged your request for this, which has raised its priority.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

@Edward is there any news regarding this BPM synced FX. I mean what are the plans on how to change this and what is the timeline?

For me Dylos is not any successor of an FX engine. So for me this is not a solution for this ā€œissueā€.

Hi @flippatspace

We don’t have any news on ONYXRM-59. It will not be implemented in ONYX 4.34. We are continuing to track requests for this, but our immediate roadmap is fairly concrete.

@Edward what is then your planned solution for this? I mean working with chases to trigger ā€œsomethingā€ cannot be the solution for this. Is there any official solution on how to easily get an effect synced to the bpm of a track rather then having a sliderto control the speed manually? How do you from a software point of view plan that a lighting programmer should use Onyx for this?

To be honest I really liked when you added the option for beat devider which would make so much sense for the FX engine as well.

whats comming in 4.34 ?

@flippatspace, There are plenty of features we want to improve and add as Onyx develops. Some, like the FX engine, will take more time than others. The current FX engine wasn’t built with BPM-based timing in mind, so adding things like tap sync ends up being a complex workaround rather than a fully integrated solution, and it would pull time away from other prerequisite systems we’re already developing.

Our long-term plan is to replace the FX engine with a new one built around modern programming approaches. This will make it easier to create both simple and advanced FX, keep track of their state for quick editing, and integrate features like BPM sync and beat division naturally.

With that said, it’s a large, resource-heavy change with several prerequisites, such as the new beat system introduced in 4.10, that need to be completed first. We know how important this is to many of you, and we’re laying the groundwork to make it happen. Because of the scope, we can’t give even a rough timeline yet, but it’s firmly on our list.

Hi @mgerardi

thanks for the explanation and yes I can imagine that changing this is a huge project. But from a cosnumer point of view and looking into the age of this thread I really ask myself how long it might need to get something like this and I ask myself (as this is also a very fundamental functionality for my usage of a lighing software) if onyx is still the way to go. I really like the overall look and feel and what you can do with onyx, but such a basic feature missing for several (7!) years in minimum is something that really makes me think about this.

And as you said: MANY are asking for this feature.

So any kind of what you are planing and in what timeframe would be much appreciated.

Any estimated date to see something, or is it also prohibited ??

Even a work around would be fine tbh.

I’m already using one that works pretty good, tho an Official one without thirdparty software would be nice.

The goal is to start a new Beta (4.33) sometime in Q4. We are beginning internal testing of Alpha versions on many of the features. And once this process is finished, we will move into the Beta testing phase.

If you would like to be a part of the initial Beta testing, please send me a DM.

I am interested

Any one heard any updates on 4.33?

Thanks very much for your interest. ONYX 4.33 is currently in alpha, and is not yet ready for beta testing.

Edward

Whats conming in 4.33?

Customisable playbacks is the headline feature. This will allow buttons in the same playback strip to control different cuelists.
