ONYX Beta 1204 - New AtlaBase Library

This is the first beta that includes the new library system powered by AtlaBase of almost 50.000 Fixture Profiles.

Please read this blog post about this change: https://obsidiancontrol.com/blog/post/the-new-onyx-library-powered-by-atlabase/

It also contains important improvements to DyLOS , additional DyLOS Effects controls and features, and concludes the introduction of Preset based DyLOS effects on any parameter.

Existing shows will load, and patched fixture types can be exchanged for new library types in the patch. This is not mandatory, but any feedback on this process is very welcome.

Any new patching of fixtures will use the new library format. You can download the latest library which is automatically replaced every day: https://support.obsidiancontrol.com/Content/Support/temp/New_Fixture_Library.htm

Please examine the fixtures carefully and report all issues, wrong defaults or a missing gobo image.

Library additions and fixes are NOT guaranteed during the beta process, and until the release is available the time to receive libraries may be longer than usual.

It may require additional coding and improvements on ONYX to make it work. However your library reports are essential to ensure the new system works well. We really appreciate the beta testers taking the time to check all fixtures they use in detail.

The library switch is a major change and there are bound to be some hiccups. Please keep all your current showfiles and do not save over them, so you can always roll back if needed.
Also test and review this version carefully and recheck your programming before using it on any shows. Report back any changes or issues so we can finalize this for a release.

4.5.1204 (24/12/2020)

This version introduces a new fixture libary format, provided by the new libary partner AtlaBase. This library includes almost 50.000 fixture profiles
Please review all required fixtures carefully and request missing fixtures and report errors, wrong defaults etc on the new fixture request page for Version 4.6
Existing fixtures will remain in the showfile but can be replaced using the “Exchange” function in the patch menu.
User fixtures and the Library Editor are not affected and remain available.
This library is only availble for Version 4.5 and higher. Previous 4.2 console versions will receive an update to enable support for the new library.
Until release both library systems remain actively supported.

New fixture library format

  • Daily update of new library package on Obsidiancontrol.com
  • Single file library package (no longer an installation)
  • Faster software install, bootup, library updates
  • Update library from System Menu /Tools/Maintenance
  • Library data is perfectly synchronized with Capture fixtures, allowing for easy import of the patch over CITP
  • Revised Parameter Defaults and Snap Rules(e.g. additive LED fixtures now have all colors defaulted to 100%)
  • -> this can affect existing programming and cues and presets must be adjusted if needed!
  • Enhanced real world values (e.g. Zoom Ranges, Shutter Speeds, Framing Blade Angles)
  • Improved Parameter names and feature descriptions
  • Enhanced gobo and effects bitmaps, color buttons for CTC and Color Wheel Selections

is the new library the first step to have presets with pictures for example images of the gobo type? that’s one of the 2 features I really miss in onyx

No this has no relationship at all, however we have a much larger gobo image library accessible now that we can utilize for future development.

the installation is much faster and more solid, great step this, in general, the software is much more fluid

Now, 2D Icons for combined fixtures now is in a square, any reason for this change ?

Hey Matthias. We have been having a play with the new Beta. Have found lots of issues with fixtures that should be compound (2 part fixtures) that are not compound fixtures in the AtlaBase library. An example is the Claypaky B-EYE fixtures in shapes mode. It needs a second part so you can access the colours for the shapes seperate to the main fixture,as it is I see no way to access the shapes colours. Ofer create a fixture profile that sorted this for us called shapes V2 and is correct in the Onyx fixture library but not this AtlaBase Library.Or fixtures that are a compound fixture but the parameter assignments for the master and parts is not correct or workable from a console. An example is the Chauvet Pro R1FXB. Tilt should be part of the head not the master. This fixture is correct in the latest Onyx fixture library but not correct in this AtlaBase Library.Interested to see if anyone else is seeing issues. Not sure how to best fix this with AtlaBase? Looks like these fixtures are ok when working with Capture stand alone but are not set up to work as a fixture library for Onyx. Thoughts.

Chauvet Maverick MK3 in 129 channel mode seems that there are some little issues when loading default parameters.
Look at the picture 2 picture after selecting use defaults.

How you can see some channels result not assigned after!

@Jirwind,

I’ve reported this. It should be taken care off

Regards,
Ofer

I have some trembling in generators when I have this type of settings, but maybe it could be my issue and not yours ,I hope the images could let you reply it,just let me know ASAP please!
THANX = )

Instalation with no problems
Load old schow - all ok

Art-net Output - not start (need Off/ On to start work)

Error - Library Edit - save new fixture

Any specific details on the edit/save custom fixture?

Issue with cuepix 80 channles fixture, please have a look at the picture, notice that this is imported directly from capture path, and the way fixture is “rotated or setted” in the 2d plan is wrong .
I hope that in the future this would be fixed, then also Proteus Maximus has the same issue .
Thanx!

PROTEUS MAXIMUS also here positioning seems wrong.

Mapping Weight:
Testing this parameter control, there is one thing that I’m missing here, why isn’t it possible to use this feature with a time? this type of control with timing as an override works very cool!
THANX!

I FOUND A BUG IN 2020 ,SO BETTER MOVING IN 2021
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL DEVELOPERS!

Using my own PNG with normal fx inside of Dylos!
I am testing the" peak curves" that are great with internal generators, but obviously this feature isn’t possible to use, with old fx engine and with my own " PNG " to create particular fx .
Can you tink of integrating those curves also in Normal fx when using Dylos?
For example in my case I am using a PNG to achieve some particular FX on position “y”, but obviously using the 3 preset mode with Dylos, and my png , this isn’t very smooth!

DYLOS RELATED
Need a help to make it work correctly and smooth please!
So if I create a cue stack with 3 cues using 3 different generators, and I want that each cue gently crossfades to the other cue in a very smooth way, from one generator to another ,how can I achieve this ?
What’s the correct way? or this can’t still be done?
Thanx!
The only thing that maybe could help is the mapping weight I suppose but please let me know.

There are two ways to achieve this kind of effect:

  1. You can use palettes with any user media (Source slot: Color parameter group 2nd page in CV), where you can import any curve you like as a gray-scale gradient
  2. You can use the gamma parameters in the Mapping slot (Color parameter group in CV)

Hi Giancarlo,

These are 2 different subjects…

  1. Pixel map orientation. I’ve reported this issue. AB mapping should be corrected. Not sure what the status on this
  2. Moving Lights orientation. Not related to new AB database… The icon is a generic icon, for all profiles… Unlike a 3D visualizer, 2D Plan does not ‘know’ the real fixture orientation, lacking the Z axis… This is why you have the Rotate\Invert tools, in the 2D Plan preferences

Is there plans to use the 2d icons in the 2d view? i have a client where we have build the rig in capture. It would be good if i could use the same icons in the 2d view. So they know waht is what also all the paperwork matches.

It’s the plan for the future
