ONYX Release Candidate 4.5.1215

Edit: Replaced with 4.5.1216

The ONYX 4.6 development cycle is now completed. Some minor housekeeping remains, but this version contains all planned features.

This version changes the licensing system. Be careful when testing this as the “free” Universes are changed. So if you do not own a ONYX Wing or Key be mindful of the Universes you need.

EtherDMX Universes are now REDUCED to 1 free Universes unless Obsidian Hardware is detected.

Netron devices will require a firmware upgrade to enable ONYX unlocking, it will be available with the 4.6 release.

For a summary of the licensing changes please see:

Help file issue! = )

I’ve never try the Exchange feature, but trying to replace a generic RGBWAUV with another doesn’t work, or I don’t understand the error message:

Exchange Is for library use i suppose, swap Is for replacing, cloning for adding.

I’ve upgraded my M1HD to 4.5.1215 and now all of my profile fixtures that have gobo and color wheels are crossfading during long fade times, this just started with the upgrade and has never been a problem before.

I open the cuelist and verified that the cue has Default as the fade not Fade All and this is happening to ALL of my cues with profile fixtures that have color/gobo wheels.

Any ideas? Does this have something to do with the new library? I have not upgraded my fixture library, could that be the problem? I’ve tried various things like swapping to fade all, snap all, and back to Default fade and that made no difference other than snap did force everything to snap bypassing the fade time.

4.5.1215

SELECT ALL & DESELECT ALL, in 2d plan in this version with an old show not working!

WITH A NEW SHOW ALL OK!

Hello, could you send us your show file (PM, if you like)?

Could you send us such a show file (PM, if you like)? Seems to work for the training show file?

Should be fixed in next build, thanks for the report

The error appears to indicate there’s a mismatch in how many parts either fixture type has, which doesn’t make sense on this type. Could you send(/PM) us your show file?

Hi Gert ,check your mail please and let me know if you got it! = )

Haven’t received anything so far. Did you send a mail to the support address, because I don’t get those - at least not directly? Please use PM facility of this forum

WEBINAR BASIC TOT STAGE.OnyxShow (6.6 MB)

@gert_leunen
Just to test I have deleted all examples of "layer "in here but it still doesnìt work !

I just noticed the “all fixtures” layer was live-locked (which is a selection lock): if you unlock it while 2D plan is in LIVE mode, the buttons will work again.
Each layer can be locked/unlocked while in either EDIT or LIVE mode: while in EDIT mode, locking a layer will prevent operations such as rename, delete and copy. While in LIVE mode, locking a layer will prevent exposure to programming (such as selection from within that layer). So, as long as that layer is visible and live-locked, its fixtures’ selection cannot be changed as long as no other layer containing the same fixtures exists, is visible and is not live-locked (which is why making “real stage” layer visible also allows those fixture to be selected again)

Ok so no issue at all at this point, that’s great!
But then can I suggest something maybe a !color change of the lock" so it comes more visible ?
And for sure the lock is also usefull so maybe a new option could be very cool.

Maybe a “LOCK SELECTION” option.
and a “UNLOCK SELECTION” option.

So to confirm my understanding of licensing changes…

(note: I use Onyx on PC with an NX Wing, I also have an EN4 Node, although I use it only occasionally).

The new on PC version will only output 1 universe sACN over network? I assume this applies to “internal” networks on the PC as well (i.e. using Loopback Adaptor to feed sACN to Capture running on the same machine). It is the case that I sometimes bring my showfile home from work on a USB, and modify it at home. The NX Wing stays at work. If I have more than 2 Dylos zones those become unavailable, but that is usually not an issue, but under the new licensing I won’t be able to visualize 4 universes using Capture without having my NX Wing attached, correct?

Also it mentions that an attached EN4 node unlocks 4 universes. It does this over ethernet (?)

Also, general confirmation, existing NX Wings (mine) will continue to unlock 128 universes over network, but newly purchased NX Wings will only unlock 64? And will they continue to unlock the full five Dylos zones?

Trying to figure out the future workflow.

So going through the Release Candidate, focusing on the library -and on the fixtures that are more common in movie and TV production. I’m assuming the RC is using the new Atlabase library, and this is why it is so different? I’m seeing that some of the fixtures do not have as great the number of defined steps in certain parameters (I think that’s the right terminology, I call them “index points”). The very popular Arri Skypanel S60 for instance. Here is the CCT parameter window in Onyx 4.4.1193, with buttons for CCT values in 100K steps. (I’m referring to the lower left quadrant of the right hand screen).

Here is the same fixture in the Release Candidate. The colored tiles are nice, but there are only four of them (they are slightly odd choices for production work too). :

I noticed a similar thing with the Astera Titan Tubes. Only a few defined step buttons for the CCT, and they were clustered at the ends of the spectrum.

So populating out these parameter fields with defined steps would be a priority for me.

In general, when we go to the new Atlabase library, the ability to import fixtures from my old Onyx/libraries is going to be crucial for me. I did successfully test importing the old Arri Skypanel profile. It worked, although when I first patched the newly imported profile, it caused Onyx to hang with a “signalling other modules” message and then crash. However, once I went through and killed the leftover processes in Task Manager, got Onyx restarted, it was there in the showfile and worked fine.

(At this point I should mention I’m running the RC on a machine that is below spec. It’s Windows 10, and it’s nearly there, but slightly below Onyx recommended spec in CPU and RAM.)

Ofer had made some profiles for me for Quasar Science R2 tube a couple months ago, multi-pixel modes, and those aren’t in the new library. I tried to add them to the RC library by running the .exe file he gave me, but it didn’t work. I’m guessing that’s because they were made for the old library and this is the new (?) Anyway, I was able to go to my production machine, export the profile, and import that, so I can make it work. Would be nice to get all these in the new library by default though.

I really like what you have done with the filters in the Programmer, Live Output and such. I also see the new library has cleaned up the Arri Skypanel section, it used to be a confusing mishmash of different version numbers and profiles. It’s much clearer now. On that note though, you may see some requests in the future for older versions of the Arri profiles. A few people will still have the old firmware installed in their fixtures, and will not want to update it for whatever reason, and some of the profiles are different IIRC.

Good work on the software!

I’ve been able to reproduce and there appears to be a bug indeed on detecting matching fixture types that have virtual dimmer enabled (if you explicitly turn virtual dimmer on for the new type). However, the exchange will always preserve the virtual dimmer setting, no matter whether you turn it on or off for the new type, so you can safely leave the virtual dimmer untouched (Off in this case) and proceed with the exchange
