Hello Giancarlo,
That is probably due to the fact that in that case it is receiving ‘just’ artnet universe 1 instead of the universes through citp?
Jo
Well in this design there are 4 universes via artnet, but then why only the number 1 works? why don’t also all the other work then? I don’t get this thing! = )
As you are in ‘free’ mode, only universe 1 is on Artnet.
Jo
Yes completely forgot that I was on free mode Ahaha thanx .
Anyway this CITP issue do want me to try something to help you?
Changes to multiple Dylos zones are only applied to all from ‘the good old’ Parameters wheels (of the popup window on the right of the screen (up arrow)), not from within the new Dylos interface to multiple selected zones.
If one selects the zones themselves and then chooses parameters from the Dylos windows below instead of from the wheel columns on the right popup windows, such as gobo / the video or image thumbnails, then it only changes the last selected zone. In other words, for example, having all the zones selected and then choosing from within the Dylos interface only affects the last selected Dylos Zone. None of the other selected zones change their setting despite being selected when clicking upon something in the Dylos windows.
Is this intentional?
Also, as previously stated, Dylos zone thumbnail synchronization between the primary and secondary PC is often weirdly unsynchronized.
Don’t forget BEAT FX, which you’ve been asking for for a long time.
Hi to all!
Can we add a short comand to ping PC or other Consoles? Like ping 2.0.0.3 and recieve a response from the other connected device. I know we can already achieve this by going in the software and pushing …,but It would be more easier for all of us, a simple comand!
Thanx = )
Please check DMX-in on Windows 11 any customer has issues about this and using the Lib Obsidian DMX-in
If possible, would you include “extend / span of a fixture profile in the patch across universes” in this update? When people patch lights with the Enttec Octo 8 the fixture starts in one universe and ends in the other, so all their patched fixtures are like this.
Do we have an option in Onyx to allow a fixture to start in one universe and stretch into the next universe? I haven’t found it.
In order to utilize Dylos for pixel strips and video we need to be able to deal with the patch when it is given to us in this configuration, of fixtures starting at the end of one universe and ending in the next.
It amounts to having dead pixels.
It’s true, I used LED tubes and in the end I had to patch the last tube pixel by pixel because it didn’t allow for patching between universes. A very unnecessary blockade.
I would like to provide user feedback I gathered with the latest releases I used on a project I was working on over the last months. I programmed around 80 hours since summer '23 on that project.
The goal of the project was to achieve an extensive yet easy to use light programming that is suitable for drunken djs who don’t know anything about computers. DJs must be enabled to light up mvoing washes and a led ceiling to their music. Around 18 universes of fixtures where connected to Onyx.
Having a fool proved programming isn’t easy to achieve in Onyx, because of so many parameters that depend on each other. This means its important to separate channels logically for easy usage and make sure everything cancels each other out perfectly while leveraging multiple cuelist priority levels.
What I like in the current state:
I hope i can provide constructive criticism and describe room for improvements from field experience:
Since day one I’m a extremely hard time working around the limitation of processing priorities: Dylos has always the hightest priority. This leads to major limitations in the (my) way of working.
When Dylos was introduced the artificial limit of 5 Dylos zones was advertised in order to make sure hardware and software (dependencies) are capable of running Dylos. Since then 5 years passed, computer hardware got better and Dylos proved itself to be stable. Therefore, there is no reason to keep that limit alive. At least not for onPC software. This would enhance creativity while designing shows, because its not about working around Dylos zone limitations anymore.
Working with mixed equipment: color wheels and rgb fixtures create the need to use multiple Dylos zones, otherwise rgb fixtues are limited in color by 2/3 presets associations. This means an Onyx LJ can hardly design multiple areas of a venue separately. The current amout of Dylos zones to design lighting awfully hard for big clubs.
I would propose to remove the Dylos zone limit for the Elite key since there is such little benefit to buy the Elite key over the Premier key.
For example, I would have purchased an Elite key over an Premier key for the club, if that key actually increases featues over a premier one. Features, I as, a programmer can leverage to create an even better show.
As a result, Obsidian misses out on double the revenue by limiting the Elite key to the level of a Premier key (except the universe count).
Batch editing for Cuelists
I could have shaved of roughly 20hours (of 80hours) of work, if I would have been able to edit multiple cuelists at once.
For such project all cuelist must cancel out. This means I need to make sure all parameters in all cuelists are present otherwise they stay alive. Adding a fixture, removing a parameter leads to editing 60-100 cuelists again and again. A batch job would helped me to save a ton of time and the client a lot of money.
Idea: assign [Group + Cue] to allow edit multiple [Cuelists]. (Because a cuelist ist a group of cues, and the buttons are right next to each other.)
Expanding Un-do to cues & cuelists
This would be a game changer for fast programming. Just to be able to remove mistakes, undo batch editing. This would free up my mind a lot, if i don’t have to consider consequences all the time.
Sync classic effect engine with Beat Source
Like many of us, I would hope for the possibility to sync beat sources with the classic effect engine. This would help to aligned light show experienced along music.
Minor Bugs:
(I have many ideas for possible future enhancements with Onyx (e.g MSEG), but this shouldn’t be part of this report. )
I hope some of this feedback is helpful. Thanks for developing Onyx!
I don’t know if this is a bug, but it’s hit or miss as to whether the Resize Windows Icon works. Often I can’t resize the windows.
Also, sometimes ghost shows appear in the join shows Network window after getting disconnected.
Save can pop up stuck behind the Dylos audio settings window.
Can I also ask why exactly you want to have multiple ones open, so we know exactly what a minimal sized window would need to contain?
I’ve never had a problem with the function. Could you show?
The Workspace / Layout issue of not being able to resize occurs when you load an old show file that had customized layouts. The fix is to restore the defaults but then you have to create new layouts again.
Replacing the workspaces/layouts file with a backup reverts back to the same problem. It’s an issue I’ve seen in previous betas. I think I’ve mentioned it before.
To see the issue, customize a layout in a previous version. Or load any show file with customized layouts. It’s prevalent in all my show files.
Do you have an old workspaces file that you can use to Replace the workspace / layout? Can anyone else verify this? I’ve found it to be true on two separate computers with multiple show files. Old workspaces are not resizeable.
Given that my show files are over a year old, maybe your show files are too new or maybe the layouts weren’t customized in a previous version.
I’ve replied to this earlier but I’ll repeat. Universal ratios between the multiplier and division don’t work as speed controls for the beat division because each animation file is different, meaning each image or video has different proportions of geometry.
So, changing from one media source to another requires tweaks of the multiplier and the divider. That occupies 10 slots for 5 Dylos zones, which is a bank of faders.
It’s when the media content is drasticly different that one wants to change the multiplier. The beat divider faders I tend to record as a Q-Blender.
I was also kind of hoping for excel sheet style drag and select to apply settings to multiple things at once in this update. If it’s a rushed setup then creating 10 Q-Blenders is a few extra steps. On the fly, it sort of forces people to create Q-Blender rate adjusters for each beat divider’s multiplier and diviser.
I only want quick access to: Beat Divider Gobo Beat Multiplier and also the Gobo Beat Divisor faders.
Again, the reason is visual. It doesn’t show the numbers in a Cuelist Fader. The numbers increase linearly from 1-10 but exponentially from 10 to 255. Creating a Q-Blender to mimic those would involve more steps, more time.
I also like having the option to rely on the settings windows on the fly when busking, because maybe I don’t have time to create those or necessarily want to. At present only two Show Details windows fit on a 1080P screen. If one wanted to rely on the settings windows instead of creating Q-Blender’s then it doesn’t work because the windows are too big.
It’s also slow to right click on the shortcut icon at the top of the screen and choose show details. If one could double click and it automatically opened Show Details then that’d be faster. When busking one wants to quickly open and close that Show Details window.
Maybe an option to toggle two drop down faders from each Beat Diviser, one for multiplier and one for diviser, that one could quickly open and close. Also the option between beat and bar.
And there’s still a startup problem sometimes if you shut down the software. “A previous session of Onyx is still running”
In the Task Manager, the Service “OnyxPlaybackEngine” say’s “stopping” and one has to End the OnyxPlaybackEngine process before one can restart Onyx.
I had this problem with ONYX not opening after closing, and it has happened that it doesn’t open when starting Windows (very rare to happen). I created a .bat file with commands to close everything in ONYX automatically and then it opens without a problem. I use it whenever I need it and it has always worked.
Hi Gert noticing real bad comunication with RDM ! Example: en4 node connected to PC via Art-net and fixture plugged into universe 1,i was able to see all Infos, but not able to change DMX addr ore mode of fixtures.
2 try, plugged DMX directly in an NX 2 same issue until I restarted the fixture and the Nx2 ,then I was able to change! Why? Fixture was a Sagitter W8 wash.
When I updates from a 4.2 version of Onyx some of the inhibitor faders changed their default value to zero. Another one didn’t work and I had to edit it to record it again.
RDM suggestion : After discovering the fixtures using let’s suppose we have nothing in our patch, so it’s a completely empty show , can you give us the chance to patch those fixture after setting universe and Addr, directly from the RDM window.
